Founders were Claus Günzlein und Leopold Krüger, whose first premises were in the Schuppen 85, Australiastrasse,
in Hamburg Freihafen.
Activities during the initial years concentrated mainly on hull cleaning. In line with national and international
environmental restrictions, this was forced to stop in 1995.
In 1992, Hansataucher took over the Hamburg shipbuilders, A.Poew GmbH together with their medium-sized shipyard on
the River Elbe, at Peuter Elbdeich. This provided a permanent home for Hansataucher, offering vastly
improved facilities, including offices, workshops and slipways, with docks and wharf facilities.
