We have been involved in challenging underwater projects for over 30 years – from offshore inspections to explosive ordnance disposal. Among other things, we have carried out in-water surveys on the Regina Baltica in the Godewind offshore wind farm, participated in explosive ordnance recovery in the Nordergründe wind farm, and probed over 400 suspected sites in the Weser River near Bremerhaven, recovering explosive ordnance.

Project: In-Water Survey – Regina Baltica

Location: Godewind offshore wind farm, North Sea

As part of this project, we carried out challenging in-water surveys on the Regina Baltica accommodation vessel at the Godewind offshore wind farm in the North Sea. Planning posed a particular challenge, as the work could only be carried out in optimal weather conditions and during the short periods of calm water. In addition, the ship was anchored throughout the entire inspection, which further complicated the process. To ensure that the diving work could still be carried out safely, another work ship was mobilized. Despite the complex conditions, the project was completed quickly and successfully.

Project: UXO clearance at the Nordergründe offshore wind farm

Location: Nordergründe offshore wind farm (North Sea, Lower Saxony)

Between December 2015 and July 2016, an UXO disposal project was carried out at the Nordergründe offshore wind farm. A total of 240 suspected sites were surveyed and probed. More than 70 pieces of explosive ordnance from the First and Second World Wars were uncovered, recovered, removed and, in close cooperation with the Lower Saxony Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (KBD Niedersachsen), professionally detonated at a later date.

Two chartered offshore/nearshore vessels were used to carry out the work: the Offshore Beaver and the Smit Orca. Both vessels are equipped with a 4-point anchor system, which enabled stable positioning under the sometimes challenging current and weather conditions in the area of operation.

Project: UXO detection in Bremerhaven

Location: Bremerhaven (Lower Saxony)

From January 2016 to August 2016, an UXO detection project was carried out in Bremerhaven, in the middle of the Weser River. Professional divers probed, uncovered, and recovered over 400 suspected explosive devices. In the course of the work, several explosive ordnance items were also identified and recovered. The work was carried out under challenging conditions in heavily trafficked waters and contributed significantly to the safety of the waterway.
